This service is for people who want to learn or increase their English proficiency through speaking, reading, and writing the language for daily communication personally and in the workplace.
Our ESL instructors are each certified and, in most cases, have lived in a country where they were not a native speaker of the language, so they understand and are supportive of the struggles of learning a new local language.
Introductory: For new English speakers and writers
Intermediate: For people with basic English communication skills who want to improve their syntax, vocabulary, and writing skills
Advanced: For people with strong conversational skills who want to refine their language and improve their writing
This service is available by request individually or in small group settings for clients with at least an undergraduate degree in a field in their native language who need to learn the English equivalent terminology. Options include:
The instructors possess advanced training and/or professional experience in the field in the United States.
Please note that these courses are not to be substituted for learning course content, For example, while you may learn the proper words for mathematical concepts and parts of equations, the instructor will not be teaching the material you would learn in a calculus course in these sessions.
This five-day workshop series is available for newly-arrived college and graduate students. It requires five clients to run, but you can request one-on-one training for a customized price and select content. Each topic consists of 2-4 hours of discussion and training time with morning and afternoon sessions and a daily lunch break. Topics include:
Writing support and academic content support with special consideration for ESL students are available under general tutoring services. If you expect to need extra help with the language and terminology during these sessions, please let a manager know in advance. We encourage you to schedule private tutoring sessions or book group sessions with other clients whose English is at the same level so the tutor can give you the support you need while satisfying all participants.
While we do assist with applications, we do not write the applications or essays or complete them for you. We will guide you through the process, explain what schools and employers are seeking, and brainstorm with you possible ways you can answer questions based upon your life and professional experiences.
As is true of our general writing services, we do not proofread or correct your writing. Our job is to help you identify the strengths and weaknesses in your writing and teach you the skills you need to become a more proficient writer. We want you to grow to the point that you do not need us to be a successful writer.
Because our approach is about teaching and learning, we do not provide asynchronous services in which you submit a paper and receive feedback later.
All of our services are synchronous, meaning that you and the tutor/trainer are meeting in person in our space or possibly through a video service such as Skype in which you can talk and text with each other.
Similar to applications, we do not correct or proofread what you have written, but we do assist you in identifying patterns of errors in your writing, teach you how to document properly, and discuss where parts of what you wrote may not make sense.
Our tutors for this service have completed a minimum of a master's degree, usually a doctorate, and have sat on dissertation or theses committees.
Due to the length of the typical thesis or dissertation, you should plan to submit at least three days in advance of your session the section you wish to discuss so that the tutor can review and make notes on it. This preparation is $55/hour for every ten pages.
There is an additional charge of $55/hour for the time you are meeting with the tutor to discuss areas for growth and learning to fix mistakes.
Please note that you will be meeting with a professional writing tutor who will not comment on the content or accuracy of what you wrote.
Please do not request this service a day or two before your thesis or dissertation is due as we cannot provide a positive learning experience in that time.
We encourage you to instead book a series of meetings with the same tutor over the course of a semester or two to achieve strong clarity, accurate documentation, and increased writing proficiency.
We love our customers, so feel free to visit during normal business hours. We are right on the bus line, and we offer plenty of onsite, free parking if you are driving. You will find us by the side entrance with the green canopy.
